Ilma Grove House was designed by Andrew Maynard Architects and is located in Northcote, Australia. You are looking at a lovely extension for a family home built in strong relationship with its environment while paying tribute to sustainability: “Taking advantage of the north-facing backyard, the geometrical structure sits behind the existing building without invading the house, avoiding extra costs in demolition and reducing construction waste. The recycled-brick facade features strategic openings to maximize sun penetration, resulting in an oblong S-shaped face with deep overhangs over the generous windows. The tangible boundary between the inside and outside has been blurred by bringing in elements of the gardens indoors through potted portions on the floor.” The architects further explain that the addition features a kitchen with dining zone and a lounge opening up towards the backyard. On the second level there is a large bedroom with stairs leading to the roof terrace. Have a look!
