Last week Nelson, a global interior design, architecture, engineering, strategies, workplace services and information services firm, announced it will merge its Chicago/Midwest regional operations with Torchia Associates, Inc., a Chicago-based architectural and interior design firm. The combined firm will have more than 60 team members with access to a network of more than 300 additional designers, architects, engineers, strategists and other experts. Local leadership will be provided by Frank Torchia, AIA, IIDA, in his role as managing principal of the combined operations.

“There are so many opportunities in the Midwest region for a firm with top leadership, talent, strategic insights and a true service mentality,” says John “Ozzie” Nelson, Jr., president and CEO of Nelson. “We were fortunate to find that Torchia was a perfect fit with their accomplished team and a common vision for workplace innovation, design achievement and commitment to client service. Together we’ll be one of the Chicago/Midwest region’s largest interiors focused practices with the ability to also provide the full spectrum of architecture, engineering, space planning and space management services.” Previously, Nelson has completed more than 15 successful mergers.

“Torchia and Nelson are truly built on common ground,” said Frank Torchia, president of Torchia. “We will keep the best of our Torchia attributes – including a focus on providing personalized and personable service in the regional market – while incorporating the best of what Nelson offers, such as the ability to provide consistent, repeatable results around the world that add value for major accounts. By uniting our resources, we will be able to accomplish much more than we ever could individually.”

After a brief transition period of co-branding in the Chicago/Midwest region, the firms will consolidate operations under the Nelson brand and consolidate in a new office location.
